The first tip for keyword research: be specific

Attention to detail. It’s sometimes overlooked. It sounds simple, but being specific with your keywords is vital to good SEO. Really think about the words or phrases that you’re using and make them as concise as you can. What exactly will the user be searching for? How effective can words or phrases be? Being specific in keyword research is one of the main things to be mindful of. 

Think about your target audience 

You want to know what your audience is searching for so you can rank for it. Keyword research in relation to your audience is so valuable. Try and think outside the box so that you can rank for an easier keyword and therefore have a better chance of getting more traffic to your site. 

Look at competitors 

Who are your competitors? What are they talking about? Ask yourself: are my potential audience looking there instead? If there’s a topic that they’re covering, it might be worth doing your competitor research and finding out what you can do better and how you can improve. From there, you can find keywords to use and review your SEO strategy. Competitors are a really good way to improve your online strategy when it comes to keyword research. 

Research trends

Trends are a good way to find out what your audience is searching for at the time. Looking for trends can aid your keyword research to find what would be the best words to rank for. Once you know what a lot of people are searching for, you will have a better idea about what your audience is typing into search engines. If you find a trend and then use it to your advantage and always keep up with the timely content with relevant keywords. 

Use tools

There are so many tools out there that can assist you with keyword research.  Better yet, some of them are free! Try Google Keywords for a free way to research keywords and use them within your SEO strategy. Making use of tools will be a good way of assisting your keyword research so that it can make it a bit easier when it comes to optimizing your online platforms.
